Alex Doig Musselburgh Mahogany inlaid slim longcase clock with a hand painted early golfing scene to the half moon face top c/w with Roman Coliseum pillars, scroll cornices, the face features roman numerals, ornate skeleton hands together with veneer motif to the base - c/w pendulum and weights – overall 87”x 9.5” x 9” Note Alexander Doig (1780-1853) was noted clock maker who moved from Edinburgh to Musselburgh in 1814 and carried on his watch making business up until the time of his passing in 1853. There were two marriages recorded in the family both who had sons named Alexander who more than likely carried on in the family clock making business
