This is an Important Jiaqing Famille Rose Dish, signed with a six character, iron red seal mark of the period, 1796-1820. Decorated with a delicately executed hand painted scene of spring flowers, Fungi and stylised rocks, all within a border of blossoming flower heads and scrolling foliage. The reverse is also superbly decorated with various flower heads and scrolling foliage, there are four beautifully painted flowering Lotus each having an iron red Chinese symbol painted in the centre added to which there are four iron red Chinese 'Swastika' symbols -all set against a lemon yellow enamelled background. It is 23.5 cms in diameter and 4.5cms high, in very good condition, no cracks, chips etc. The only, very minor blemish is three of four extremely small, slightly raised, underglaze 'firing spots' along one quarter of the rim edge, these being caused by very tiny impurities in the porcelain. INTERESTING NOTE A Jiaqing, slightly smaller dish, of the same period and decorated with exactly the same flower head/scrolling leaf rim border (but with different centre design) and same six character, iron red seal mark, was sold at Christies, South Kensington, London for £20,000, on the 12 November 2010. The condition report for the dish, read - 'small section of restoration and over paint to the rim, with associated hairline cracks, a further hairline to rim, max 2.3 cm' and it still sold for the above price. It is also worth noting that Chinese ceramic prices have continued to rise significantly, since the above dish was sold in November 2010
