A 19th Century French harewood and marble topped serpentine commode, the serpentine breche d'api top raised on three graduated serpentine front drawers with ormolu handles and escutcheons, the curved shaped sides with quarter veneered panel and stringing, with shaped apron and ormolu mount, curved scrolling legs with ormolu sabots, 33 x 39 1/2 x 19 1/2in. (84 x 100 x 49.5cms).
CARVED SALMON: Fine carved wood half block salmon, Fochabers Studio model on original wood board 54" x18", hand painted legend "35lbs killed by Victor Bonney on the Wye at Armstone, March 19, 1922", finely executed carving, hairline crack to front and vent fins, barely visible, otherwise superb specimen. A private collection of studio pottery - Shoji Hamada (1894-1978), attributed to - a good stoneware circular dish, the reddish brown glaze with black specks, decorated with a wax resist cream foliate motif to the centre, indistinct impressed seal to inside of footrim, 9.7ins. Property of a Lady A Chinese blue & white Ming style bottle vase, underglaze six character seal mark of Qianlong (1736-95) and of the period, decorated with a band of floral scrolls, above a petal lappet band, with a lotus scroll band above a ruyi head band, the neck with plaintain leaf decoration, further ruyi band and cresting wave motifs, 14in. (36cms) high. Provenance The Shafto family, Beamish Hall, County Durham, thence by descent. An old label found inside the vase reads: " Ta-Ching Kien - Long Nan tiki (1736 1796) Chinese".
