Admiral Keppel: a Delft plate, probably Lambeth, painted in blue with a central portrait named in brown, within a brown lined rim, 227mm, circa 1779, restored * Augustus Keppel was born in 1725 and went to sea at the age of 10 becoming a distinguished sailor. Entering Parliament he stood as a Whig representing Chichester 1755-61, New Windsor 1761-80 and following a narrow defeat orchestrated by the King, he was elected for Surrey 1780-82 when he became First Lord of the Admiralty. During the American War of Independence, which he opposed, he faced a political court martial but was acquitted in 1779 amidst a popular feeling of support. He died unmarried in 1786. Whether these plates were made in support of his innocence in the court martial or celebration of his acquittal or as political favours in his bids to secure the Windsor seat in 1780 or the Surrey seat the same year, remains a mystery.

LOCK OF ELVIS PRESLEY'S HAIR - This rare and interesting item is a lock of Elvis Presley's hair - Homer M. Gilleland, known as "Mr. Gill", cut Gladys Presley's hair in the 1950's at Goldsmiths Department Store in Memphis, Tennessee. When Elvis became famous he asked his mother's hairdresser to cut his hair and he continued to cut his hair until Presley's death in 1977. Homer Gill Gilleland toured with Elvis for more than 20 years. He dyed the singer's hair black and then cut it, saving "locks of hair" in a towel. Friends of Mr Gilleland said he would then bundle up the towel, with hair inside, and take it home in a bag. After Elvis' death in 1977, Mr Gilleland started selling locks of the hair in a souvenir shop on the street opposite the singer's home Graceland in Memphis in the US This particular lock ofhair currently up for auction (containing around 30 - 40 individual strands) was given to the vendor over 20 years ago by a gentleman she was dating at the time and who owned the souvenir shop across the road from Graceland. It comes with a photocopy of the letter of provenance written by Home Gilleland which was given with the locks that were sold- it also comes attached to one of the original embossed cards that were sold with the hair.

1807 William Gordon: a particularly good and attractive Chamberlains Worcester jug inscribed in gilt with loyal support for the victory on 17th February 1807 by a majority of 352, flanked by green, grey and gilt laurel leaves and the entwined initials BJ surmounted by blue ribbons, the orange ground rim with gilt foliate decoration, the underside marked Chamberlains Worcester in gilt, 179mm * William Gordon (1772-1823) obtained the seat at Worcester in 1807 in a contested by-election after having been defeated in the General Election of 1806. He succeeded Henry Bromley, whose lavish bribes were so blatant that he resigned rather than let Gordon's petition against his election proceed to a vote in the House of Commons. Gordon, a London Portuguese merchant represented the 'independent' faction in the constituency, which was notoriously expensive to contest because of the high number of non-resident voters and ingrained corruption. He stood down in 1818 no longer able to afford the expense of election, which by this time had ruined his business. As his clerk wrote: 'no business could stand 25,000 for contested elections, 20,000 for house and furniture in Portland Place and 19,000 for jewels to Lady Gordon...' Two examples of this jug are to be found in the Worcester Porcelain Museum.

THE KING'S CROWN - This one of a kind piece of rock and roll memorabilia is a model of Elvis Presley's teeth together with a crown made for the star made by former memphis dentist Henry J Weiss. Weiss, who was Presley's dentist until 1971 affectionately called the crown the "King's Crown." The model and crown is accompanied by five letters of authenticity from the wife/sons of the dentist and Joe Esposito, Presley's road manager. The model of the King's teeth is encased in a custom glass display. Dr. Henry Weiss, whose offices were located in the 430 Dermon Building in downtown Memphis did any and all dental work including the preparation of a porcelain crown for Elvis' front tooth. Dr. Weiss always kept an extra crown on the model of Elvis Presley's teeth in the event that he might chip or crack his crown. In February of 1971, Elvis cracked his crown on a microphone while performing at the International Hotel, currently known as the Hilton Hotel - Las Vegas. Dr. Weiss' son, S. Lewis Weiss, flew a replacement crown to Las Vegas. Dr. Henry Weiss was born on Christmas day, 1907 and died December 11, 1990. He graduated from the University Of Tennessee College Of Dentistry with a DDS Degree in 1931. He practiced dentistry in Memphis for 57 years and was a recipient of the Tennessee Dental Association's Fellowship Award.
