LEO-NARDO

Artist: Lois Cordelia

Lois Cordelia is a community artist, speed-painter and tutor, who creates most of her art live in public and her designs have featured in over 20 public art trails across the UK.

Leo-nardo is an homage to 16th century genius Leonardo da Vinci, who died 500 years ago this year and is one of Lois' greatest heroes. Although best known as an artist, Leonardo was equally accomplished in the sciences, music, mathematics, engineering, anatomy and astronomy and even created a walking animatronic lion for the King of France, which had a secret compartment that would spring open, presenting a bunch of lilies to the awe-struck observer. The King was so impressed by Leonardo's genius that he invited him to his court and Leonardo travelled to France by mule across the mountains from Italy, bringing the Mona Lisa with him, in his saddle bag!

Lois has painted this journey and a fabulous portrait of the Mona Lisa on the side of her lion, which also features Leonardo's famous 'Lady with an Ermine' painting and his unique mirror-writing.

Leo-Nardo was kindly sponsored by the Cosmetic Doctor Clinic.
