LEONIDAS

Artist: Robert Oxley

Robert is a keen conservationist and self-taught artist whose eye-catching wildlife art adds a surrealist twist to natural history. Robert refers to his work as 'Psychedelic natural history'.

Robert starts his paintings with a large brush and thin yellow paint, blocks in the shape of the animal, adds contrasting colours and lets them drip... He usually creates dramatic colourful canvases, so Leonidas was the first 3D lion sculpture he has painted!

Robert has recently worked on projects with the Big Cat Sanctuary and the National K9 Memorial and says: I love the freedom and brutality of nature, but I don't like what we as humans are doing to it. My art is a way of exploring and exposing this'.
