SIMBA (Cub)

Artist: Maria Meerstadt

PLEASE NOTE - THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTION AS IT IS BEING DONATED TO THE ALEXANDER DEVINE CHILDREN'S HOSPICE SERVICE.

Maria is a full-time professional artist, working in all mediums, but mainly oils. Her work is influenced by the world around her and she believes we live in a universe full of wonderful colours, shapes and humour, all waiting for her paint brush to capture it.

The design of Simba, the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service's cub, features many elements of the Hospice and Alexander, the wonderful little boy who inspired the charity.

An image of the hospice building takes centre stage on Simba's body and the blooming wildflowers and grass which cover the site are painted on the cub's feet, symbolising the grass roots and organic growth of the charity. Poppies synonymous with remembrance and in memory of the children that have sadly passed away, are entwined in the wildflowers.

The Alexander Devine heart forms Simba's chest and the hospice's signature dolphin features on his hind legs. The cub's head and feet are painted as Simba from The Lion King as Alexander and his family enjoyed many trips to see the Lion King in London, which was his favourite musical.

Simba was kindly sponsored by Gold Sponsor LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.
